Brief:The Caribbean Investment Forum (CIF) was held for the first time in Port of Spain at the initiative of the Honourable Kamla Persad- Bissessar, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commonwealth Chairperson-in-Office.

 
The Caribbean Investment Forum (CIF) was held for the first time in Port of Spain at the initiative of the Honourable Kamla Persad- Bissessar, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commonwealth Chairperson-in-Office.

Focusing on the theme, “Partnering with Trinidad and Tobago as a Gateway to the Commonwealth and the Americas”, the Forum attracted over 350 participants from 26 countries and territories. It was opened by Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and was addressed by HE Jose Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organisation of American States, along with Ministers and over sixty business leaders. The Gala Dinner was attended by Sir Richard Branson, Chairman, Virgin Group Ltd.

The Forum was designed to build upon the Commonwealth Business Forum, which was held in Port of Spain in November 2009 at the time of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. 

More than 20 sessions were held with focuses on a wide range of sectors including tourism, financial services, manufacturing, renewable energy, agribusiness, maritime, creative and construction. The Forum also included special sessions on cloud computing and investing in fine cocoa. 

The Forum was generously sponsored by Construtora OAS, Microsoft, National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago, Atlantic, BG Group, BP Trinidad and Tobago, Arcelor Mittal, Petrotrin, BHP Billiton and RBC.
