Trinidad and Tobago Become a Hotspot for Chinese Overseas Investment
——Trinidad and Tobago Business Forum successfully held in Shanghai

Brief:Trinidad and Tobago become a hotspot for Chinese overseas investment.

As the Closing Event and main promotion activity of Trinidad and Tobago(T&T) Culture Week in Shanghai Expo, Trinidad and Tobago Business Forum successfully held in Shanghai on Sept. 27th. “This business forum has attracted one hundred million US dollars investment", the Honorable Stephen Cadiz, Minister of Ministry of Trade and Industry, T&T, said in the news conference after the Forum. It also marks a milestone that Trinidad and Tobago has become an hotspot for Chinese overseas investment.

Trinidad and Tobago Business Forum was organized by T&T Investment Promotion Department with the support and assistance of  China Business Network in order to promote further cooperation in the filed of trade, culture, tourism, music and entertainment between T&T and China and attract more Chinese to travel and invest in T&T.

The T&T delegation included many important leaders in T&T, such as the Honorable Stephen Cadiz, Minister of Trade & Industry,T&T and the Honorable Stephen Cadiz, Minister of Trade & Industry as well as the representatives from some important industries in T&T, such as Mr. Ernest M. Littles,President, Tourism Development Company Limited; Ms. Dionne McNicol, Chief Executive Officer, T&T Ent; Mr. Bernard Mitchell, Chief Implementation Officer – Tamana Operations, eTecK; Mr. Adrian Brown, Head Chef and Owner of the restaurant Solimar, etc. attending this business forum, which showed that Chinese overseas investment market has drew great attention from T&T. All the representatives gave detailed introduction of T&T’s abundant resources and investment opportunities to Chinese investors and tour operators, aiming at attracting more Chinese businesses leaders to share the investment opportunities in T&T.

Meanwhile, the Forum also got great supports from many Chinese government organizations, well-known chambers of commerce, enterprises and strong investors. Di Rong, Vice Minister of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade(Shanghai Office), Li Zhen, Vice Director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Lu Liming, Shanghai Representative of Huawei Technologies attended the Forum in person to have face-to-face discussions with T&T Senior Officials and leaders of important enterprises. In addition, representatives from well-known Tsingtao Beer Corporation, Wahaha Group, HP Shanghai Company, Shanghai Qingpu Industrial Zone, Beijing Alliance International Business Co., Ltd., Shanghai Science & Technology Investment Corporation, Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information , China Council for the promotion of International Trade, Shanghai Federation of Industry & Commerce, Shanghai Science & Technology Development and Exchange Center actively communicated and asked questions at the Forum and showed their strong interests in T&T investment because of its strong international competitive advantages and excellent investment environment.

At present, China has successfully invest many projects in the areas such as construction projects, copper & aluminum products, iron ore and asphalt in T&T. The Minister Stephen Cadiz delivered a speech at Trinidad and Tobago Business Forum expressing his high expectation on Chinese market. He expressed that in the past few years we have witnessed the soaring growth of trade volume between our two countries. T&T is focusing strongly on specific priority areas for investment: Information Technology, Tourism, Entertainment, and these are by no means the full list. He sincerely hope these projects will become the key investment fields for Chinese investors in Trinidad and Tobago. Many entrepreneurs and businessmen presenting the Forum have shown their strong interests in telecommunication and high-tech industries.

Minister Stephen Cadiz also said “China has also provided T&T with various measures of development assistance over the years, in the form of grants, interest free loans, and concessional loans. Our countries have also engaged in technical cooperation initiatives such as training courses in radio broadcasting, diplomacy, military strategies, vegetable science and technology, solar energy application techniques and computer repairs.” He was eager to expand their already strong positive relationship with China by deepening trade and economic ties and look forward to speaking with you individually to develop mechanisms for making this a reality.

Chinese participants met with representatives from T&T during the networking break time to get further information about preferential policies for investment, economical and the financial information, tourist visa, etc. They also talked with the representatives from the enterprises they intended to cooperate with, so as to establish business relations efficiently.

Over 150 business executives attended the event and showed great interest in T& T.

 Participants were asking questions actively.

"Great!" all the participants highly appreciated the cuisine cooked by Trinidad Chef Joe Brown and got special local gifts from T&T. The Forum finally drew a satisfactory conclusion in T&T’s enthusiasm.
