Ecuadorian White Shrimp Shines at the 2019 Chinese Culinary World Championship

The four-day 2019 "Lu Hua Cup" Chinese Culinary World Championship kicked off in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian. It featured 20 teams and individuals from different countries and regions, including China, the Maldives, Mongolia, Japan, and Pakistan, totaling 200 participants. This culinary extravaganza also attracted nearly a hundred media outlets for coverage.  
 

  Mr. Andres Armas, Commercial Counselor of Ecuador Embassy to China, delivered an opening speech on August 21st, saying, "I hope that by sponsoring this competition with Ecuadorian white shrimp as the main ingredient, we can create exquisite dishes that blend both Chinese and Western flavors. Through Ecuadorian culinary culture, we aim to enhance Ecuador's international presence and strengthen trade cooperation between China and Ecuador.

Ecuador is renowned worldwide for its shrimp production and exports. In recent years, Ecuador's high-quality white shrimp, known for their large size, thin shells, high meat yield, firm texture, sweet taste, and high nutritional value, have rapidly become one of the largest imported seafood products in the Chinese market.

During this championship, Ecuadorian white shrimp became a favorite ingredient for the participating chefs. Let's take a look at some of the mouthwatering culinary creations.

During the closing speech, Mr. Bian Jiang, Vice President of the China Cuisine Association, expressed his gratitude for the cooperation with the Republic of Ecuador, bringing high-quality white shrimp to Chinese diners.

Currently, China is the fastest-growing market for Ecuadorian white shrimp exports. According to data from the National Aquaculture Association of Ecuador, from January to May of this year, Ecuador's exports of large shrimp to China reached $601 million, a year-on-year increase of 181%, with a 220% increase in export volume. In June alone, more than 50% of Ecuador's white shrimp exports went to the Chinese market. With major holidays like the Mid-Autumn Festival, Christmas, New Year, and Spring Festival approaching, the consumption of seafood in the Chinese market is expected to rise, leading to increased demand for Ecuadorian white shrimp.
