São Tomé and Príncipe PM calls for Chinese investment in the archipelago in Shanghai
2019-03-28
São Tomé and Principe’s Prime Minister has invited Shanghai businesspeople to invest in the archipelago during a meeting with the city’s mayor, Ying Yong, local media reported.

Jorge Bom Jesus also called on businesspeople in Shanghai to visit São Tomé and Príncipe to explore potential business opportunities and mentioned the tourism, shipping and oil sectors.

Ying Yong recalled that China advocates a relationship with Africa based on “sincerity, results, friendship and good faith,” and stressed that this principle played an important role in building more dynamic Sino-African cooperation.

Bom Jesus left São Tomé for China on a week-long trip to take part in the Boao Forum for Asia, to be held from 26 to 29 March on the island of Hainan and will meet with President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Lee Keqiang.

Bom Jesus will take advantage of the trip to meet with various entities with a view to strengthening cooperation with China and attract Chinese investment to the archipelago’s structural projects.

These structural projects include the extension of the São Tomé and Príncipe international airport runway by 600 metres, which is expected to be financed by China, as Bom Jesus said on his 100th day in office.
