Chinese Investors Keen to Spend in Pakistan Under CPEC

Brief:Chinese entrepreneurs showed keen interest in investment opportunities in power generation, infrastructure development and agriculture sector among others.
 
Over 150 Chinese businessmen and investors attended the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Summit and Expo held at Pak-China Friendship Centre. The event was hosted by Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform with an aim to highlight the bilateral trade and investment opportunities in different sectors of the two economies under multi-billion dollar projects.
 
The summit was also aiming to mark the third anniversary of Joint Coordination Committee meeting and decision on CPEC and to enhance business to business contacts. About 60 stalls were established in the expo where several Chinese and local companies displayed their products and expertise to showcase their products and services which promoted business to business contacts.
 
In the CPEC moot, about 27 Chinese leading companies operating in energy generation and construction had established their desks to apprise the local businesses about the possible areas of cooperation. Leading businessmen and investors also attended the summit, whereas boards of investment of four provinces also established their desks to apprise the Chinese investors about the trade and investment opportunities in their respective provinces.
 
Tommy – representative of Zonenergy Limited – said his company was working on the construction of 900 Megawatt (MW) solar energy plant. He informed that the company was operating in solar energy generation and had generated about 300MW solar energy.
 
He said pro-business policies of the current government had encouraged the investors to spend in different sectors of economy and more companies were coming to Pakistan as CPEC had opened huge investment opportunities. Meanwhile, official of the China Road and Bridge Corporation said that the company was working on widening and improvement of Karakoram Highway from Khunjrab to Raikot.
