Indonesia, China Focus on Enhancing Investment and Trade Partnerships

Brief:Chinese delegation arrived in Indonesia to seek more cooperation opportunities for the two countries.
 
President Joko Widodo, accompanied by Chief Security Minister Luhut Pandjaitan and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, received a member of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Yang Jiechi, in a courtesy call at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Monday (09/05).
 
The meeting focused on the commitment of of both nations towards increasing bilateral partnerships in all sectors with a strong emphasis on investment and trade, a statement from the president said.
 
“The main idea is to carry a message from [Chinese] President Xi Jinping to President Jokowi that China is committed to increasing bilateral partnerships in every sector, from economy, trade, investment and others,” Retno said in a press conference.
 
Retno said trade between the countries has reached $44.4 billion, but as the trend decreases Joko has called for an enhancement of the partnership.
 
“Indonesia proposes to establish IDBC [Indonesian Diaspora Business Council] in Shanghai, a promotion center in Beijing and so forth,” Retno said.
 
The Chinese delegation, including the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng, Deputy Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin, Deputy Agricultural Minister Yu Kangzhen and Deputy Trade Minister Gao Yan, also discussed a 400 percent increase in investment from China, in addition to ongoing infrastructure partnerships.
