The forum which was organized by a Senegalese businessman Sourakhata Tirera who is based in China, was an opportunity to showcase Senegal to Chinese business operators.
“It is a forum to encourage private Chinese investors to come to Senegal. This is because the private sector is the engine of economic growth for any country,” China’s ambassador to Senegal Zhang Xun said during the forum’s opening ceremony.
The meeting is an opportunity to present Senegal to everyone and show how one can invest in the country, he said, adding that this first forum would come up with concrete ways of collaborating with the private sector.
“Chinese investors have a desire to invest in Senegal but they face many challenges,” the forum’s initiator Sourakhata Tirera said.
According to him, the forum was a way of assisting Senegalese state and showing it that private investors are ready to support its large projects.
According to Tirera who has been running his business from Chinese city of Yiwu for eight years, it is important to reinforce and consolidate the involvement of Chinese economic actors in Senegal by helping them have a better understanding of the business environment and investment opportunities.
“The objective of this forum is to give the Chinese who come to Senegal an opportunity which China gave me, to enable them to create companies, transfer their technology and participate in the creation of job opportunities,” the Senegalese businessman in China said.
Elsewhere during the same forum, Tirera urged both Chinese and African media to collaborate for a greater future of Sino-Africa cooperation.
He noted that if the Chinese do not have good information about Africa, they will not invest on the continent.
“The media should help to create awareness and broadcast the real ties of Africa and China. This is very important because if today the Chinese had all the information they needed to know about Africa through the media, they would not have a problem investing on the continent,” he said.
“I appeal to all African and Chinese media to collaborate for a better future of cooperation between China and Africa,” Tirera added.
The businessman further urged Senegalese population to take advantage of the opportunity offered by Sino-Africa cooperation.
