On March 25 (local time), President Xi Jinping met with
UK Prime Minister David Cameron in the Netherlands.
Xi Jinping said that Cameron’s successful visit to China last December opened a new chapter in China-UK relations. He hoped that the two sides would continue to make concerted efforts and, on the basis of mutual respect and accommodating each other’s major concerns, maintain high-level exchanges and strengthen communication and cooperation by making good use of such mechanisms as annual meeting between the two heads of government and China-UK strategic dialogue. The two sides should work for exemplary flagship projects in nuclear power, high-speed railway, hi-tech and finance, deepen exchanges and cooperation in education, technology and the media and facilitate personnel exchanges. China attaches great importance to UK’s important position in the EU and hopes that the UK will play a leading role in advancing the feasibility studies on an FTA between China and Europe.
David Cameron said that the UK is committed to growing relations with China. It stands ready to make joint efforts with China to ensure positive results in bilateral high-level exchange of visits and various dialogue mechanisms, and to implement major investment projects. The UK supports the signing of EU-China Investment Agreement at an early date and will play a positive role in bringing about an FTA between the two sides.
Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu and Yang Jiechi were present at the meeting.
