Costa Rica Will Host the China Business Summit Latin America and the Caribbean

Brief:The Seventh China Business Summit Latin America and the Caribbean will be hosted in Costa Rica on November 26 and 27. The summit will be the most important business event of the year between the region and China.
Entrepreneurs, investors and government representatives from Latin America and China will meet in Costa Rica on November 26 and 27 for the Seventh China Business Summit Latin America and the Caribbean, officials announced.

The Minister of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica, Anabel Gonzalez said at a press conference that the summit includes business meetings, bilateral meetings and conferences, and will be the most important business event of the year between the region and the Asian giant.

The Costa Rican government awaits the arrival of at least 800 participants in strategic sectors to strengthen trade and investment relationship between the two regions, to exchange experiences and discuss trade issues on hand.

“This meeting will strengthen Costa Rica’s position as China’s gateway to the Americas, promote the generation of new business and identifying strategic partners for investment and cooperation projects in areas of interest to us,” said Gonzalez.

The China Business Summit Latin America and the Caribbean, held annually since 2007 and the venue alternating between China and a Latin American country.

The General Manager of the Foreign Trade Promoter of Costa Rica (Procomer), Jorge Sequeira, that the country was looking for “(to) showcase business … and to extend its range of exports” .

Sequeira explained that it has arranged a business conference on the expected participation of more than 500 entrepreneurs, and that the interests of the Chinese are concentrated in the industrial, food, construction, technological and beef.

Another goal of the summit is strategic partnerships for investment projects.

“In the field of investment we see opportunities in areas such as clean technology, manufacturing, agribusiness and logistics and distribution centers,” explained meanwhile Gabriela Llobet, director of the Coalition for Development Initiatives (CINDE), responsible of attracting investment in Costa Rica.

The minister González, the meeting will also provide an opportunity to present the project progress Chinese Special Economic Zone in Costa Rica.
