Good relations between China and the United States not only benefit the peoples of the two nations, but also the peace, stability and prosperity of the whole world, Li said as he met on Monday evening with Richard N. Haass, President of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Haass is in China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.

"We are willing to make joint efforts with the U.S. side to consider the China-U.S. relationship from a strategic height and a long-term perspective, maintain the overall situation of the ties, promote political mutual trust and cooperation in various areas, and advance the relationship continuously," Li was quoted as saying.

Haass said he and the Council on Foreign Relations will continue to push ahead with exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side to develop the bilateral ties in a healthy and stable way, according to the release.
